The page has been set up on behalf of a group of students from Calder VI, a local 6th form attached to the comprehensive Calder High School in Calderdale. We are intending to travel to Africa this summer, with a charity called The Great Generation.
We will be initiating a micro-finance project where we loan money to a rural community to enable them to plan and grow a model garden and to work with community to help them cultivate their soil and improve their self-sufficiency and quality of life.
The project is in the form of a loan which the community pays back to the charity to enable it to be distributed to another project in this or another community.
As you can imagine, a project like this requires considerable funding and we need to raise £20,000 to cover the costs of travel and accommodation for our group and to provide the community with their loan.
We are organising many activities within the school community to help us raise the money. We are also approaching local businesses in the hope that we will receive the whole community’s support in undertaking this venture.
Therefore I am writing to you in the hope that you can support us with a donation, or any additional ideas for raising the money.
